Town Hall
One building stands between your village and total annihilation.
The Town Hall is the beating heart of every village in Clash of Clans. From the humble wooden shack of a fledgling TH1 settlement to the grand multi-tiered fortress of a TH15 stronghold, it stands as the single most important structure on the map. It is not a weapon, not a resource generator, and not a laboratory — it is the seat of authority, the symbol of the village chief's power, and the one building whose destruction defines the outcome of every attack. For the player who builds, the Town Hall is the anchor around which the entire base is designed. For the attacker, it is the ultimate prize: the structure that, when its hit points are reduced to zero, earns the coveted star and signals a decisive victory. Every defensive wall, every Inferno Tower, every carefully placed Archer Queen is arranged to protect this one building above all others.

Lore & Background
In the world of Clash of Clans, every village is born around a single structure: the Town Hall. It is here that the village chief gathers the elders, dispatches heroes on raids, and receives the spoils of war. The walls of the Hall are where the day's harvest is tallied, where the Barbarian King sharpens his axe before a campaign, and where the Archer Queen nocks her first arrow. To a villager, the Town Hall is not merely a building — it is the village itself, made manifest in timber, stone, and iron. As a village grows, so does its Hall. A TH1 is little more than a rough-hewn hut with a thatched roof, barely large enough for the chief and a handful of villagers. By TH5, it has become a proper two-story structure with a watchtower and a small courtyard. At TH10 and beyond, the Hall is a sprawling complex of interlocking towers, battlements, and banners, its silhouette visible from across the valley. The highest levels feature ornate stonework, sweeping staircases, and a great hall where the chief's banner flies above the assembled heroes. Attackers in the Clash of Clans world understand one truth above all: the village lives or dies by its Hall. A base can lose its storages, its workshops, even its hero barracks, and still rebuild. But a shattered Town Hall means the chief has fallen, the banner has been torn down, and the village must start again from nothing. This is why the most skilled builders spend hours arranging their defenses around that single structure, and why the most cunning attackers will sacrifice entire armies to reach it.
In Their Own Story
The morning fog still clung to the valley when the first Barbarian crested the eastern ridge. Old Maren, the village's eldest builder, watched from the upper gallery of the Town Hall and felt the familiar cold knot in her stomach. She could see them now — a river of grey helmets and raised axes, pouring over the treeline in a slow, grinding wave. "She's in the center," she muttered to no one in particular, her weathered fingers tracing the carved rail of the balcony. The chief's banner snapped in the wind above her. Below, the walls hummed with the low thrum of Inferno Towers warming their cores. The Archer Queen stood at the northern gate, bow already drawn, her eyes tracking the vanguard. Maren had built this Hall with her own hands, plank by plank, over three years of sawing and nailing. Every scar in the wood was a memory. And now a thousand strangers were coming to tear it down. She gripped the railing, felt the grain bite into her palms, and whispered the old words the builders always said before a siege:
"Hold the line. Hold the Hall. Hold the name."
The first arrow hit the outer wall with a sharp crack. The siege had begun.
Reader's Guide
The Town Hall is not a defensive weapon — it deals no damage and has no range. Its sole "stat" is hit points, which scale upward with each level, making higher-level Halls progressively harder to destroy. At its maximum (TH15), the Town Hall possesses a very large hit-point pool, meaning attackers must commit significant troop strength and spell support to bring it down. It is present from TH1, where you begin the game, and every subsequent base level is defined by upgrading it to the next tier. Upgrading the Town Hall is by far the most expensive and time-consuming construction in the game. At higher levels, the gold cost reaches into the hundreds of thousands, and the build time stretches to several days. Because of this, players often plan their base layout months in advance, knowing that once the upgrade begins, the Hall will be vulnerable (or absent) for an extended period. Strategically, the Town Hall is almost always placed at or near the center of the base, surrounded by concentric rings of walls, defensive towers, and traps. This forces attackers to break through multiple layers before reaching it. However, experienced players sometimes use the Hall as a "bait" — placing it slightly off-center or in a pocket that lures troops away from the real defensive core. Synergy is key: positioning the Hall within range of multiple Inferno Towers, Elixir Pumps, and the Hero's abilities creates overlapping kill zones that make the final push to the Hall extraordinarily costly for the attacker. One critical note: during an upgrade, the Town Hall is temporarily removed from the base, leaving the village without its central structure. This is the most vulnerable window a player can be in, and experienced builders often time these upgrades carefully or use a second base for protection.
Did You Know?
- The Town Hall is the only building that exists at every single base level, from TH1 all the way to TH15 — every other structure is unlocked at a specific threshold.
- Destroying the Town Hall is the primary method of earning a 'star' in an attack, making it the single most contested structure in the entire game.
- The Town Hall's visual design changes dramatically at every level, evolving from a simple wooden hut to an elaborate multi-tiered fortress with towers, banners, and ornate stonework.
- During a Town Hall upgrade, the building is temporarily removed from the base entirely, leaving the village without its central structure for the duration of the build.
