Giant

Slow, stubborn, and absolutely relentless—nothing stands between a Giant and the next tower.

The Giant is one of the most iconic and enduring troops in the Clash of Clans universe. A towering, heavily muscled humanoid warrior, the Giant is a single-target melee unit whose singular purpose is to wade through an enemy's defensive architecture. Unlike most troops that seek out other soldiers, the Giant ignores enemy forces entirely and locks onto defensive buildings—Cannons, Archer Towers, Mortars, and beyond—methodically smashing them to rubble with its massive fists. Unlocked early in a player's progression, the Giant quickly becomes a cornerstone of countless army compositions. Its combination of high hitpoints, slow and deliberate pace, and exclusive focus on defenses makes it a reliable 'wall-breaker' that clears the way for more fragile or ranged attackers. Whether paired with Archers in a classic Giant Archer push or tucked into a more complex mixed army, the Giant remains a fan-favorite symbol of brute, unstoppable force in the Clash world.

Lore & Background

In the sprawling, cartoonish world of Clash of Clans, Giants are a distinct and well-known tribe. They are enormous, broad-shouldered humanoids with thick, grey-brown skin, powerful arms, and a perpetually determined scowl. Their physical stature dwarfs most other inhabitants of the village, and their simple, single-minded nature is both their greatest strength and their most endearing flaw. A Giant does not strategize, does not flank, does not retreat. It walks forward, finds a building, and hits it. Again. And again. Until it is dust. Their culture, as glimpsed through the game's world, is one of raw, unapologetic strength. They value direct confrontation and physical endurance above all else. In the context of a player's army, this translates to their unique targeting: they see only defensive structures as worthy opponents. Troops, buildings, and other units are simply obstacles to step over. This makes them invaluable as a 'clearing' force, punching through the layered defenses that would otherwise shred a more delicate army. Fans of the franchise often personify the Giant as the loyal, slightly dim but utterly dependable friend—the one who never overthinks a problem, just walks up to it and solves it with a very large fist. That combination of simplicity, toughness, and quiet reliability has made the Giant one of the most beloved and recognizable characters in the entire Clash universe.

In Their Own Story

The dust hung thick in the afternoon air, kicked up by a hundred small boots marching in formation. But ahead of them all, slow as a boulder rolling downhill, came the Giant. His shadow swallowed the sun. The enemy Archer Tower locked on, bolts hissing through the air, punching into his shoulders and bouncing off like pebbles against a cliff face. He didn't flinch. Didn't speed up. Just kept walking, one massive foot in front of the other, eyes fixed on the tower with the calm, unblinking patience of a man who had all the time in the world. Behind him, a swarm of Archers poured over his broad back, raining arrows into the next row of defenses. The Giant reached the tower. He wrapped both hands around its base. The structure groaned. Cracked. Split. He set it down in a heap of splintered wood and already his gaze had drifted to the next one. The Archers cheered. The Giant said nothing. He never did. He just kept walking.

Reader's Guide

TACTICAL PROFILE: THE GIANT

Unlock: Town Hall 3. The Giant is one of the first troops a player can train, making it a foundational unit from the early game onward. Core Behavior: The Giant is a single-target melee unit that exclusively targets defensive buildings. It will never attack enemy troops, resource buildings, or the Town Hall directly (unless no other defense is in range). Its slow speed means it commits to a target and stays there, absorbing a significant amount of damage while it works. Stats at Max Level: The Giant boasts high hitpoints for its tier, moderate melee damage, and a notably slow movement speed. These exact figures shift with game balance updates, so always check the in-game troop screen for current values. Best Pairings: Archers are the classic companion—Giants tank the defenses while Archers pick off what the Giants can't reach. Balloons benefit from Giants clearing the first layer of towers. In mixed armies, a small Giant core can 'open' a defense so that faster, more fragile troops (Hog Riders, Witches, Electro Dragons) can sweep through the gap. Lava Hound + Giant combinations are also popular for high-level pushes. Drop-When Tip: Drop Giants at the edge of the enemy base, slightly off-center, so they engage the first ring of defenses while your ranged or flying units arrive on the flanks. Avoid dropping them directly in the center where all defenses can focus-fire simultaneously. Give them a few seconds to lock onto a tower before the rest of the army arrives, and they'll be chewing through defenses while everything else flows in behind them.
