Wizard

One fireball, one target, zero excuses—your village's first true all-rounder.

The Wizard is a mid-tier ranged troop in Clash of Clans, unlocked at Town Hall 4. Clad in a flowing robe and wielding a gnarled staff, the Wizard hurls searing fireballs at a single enemy target, making it one of the few early-game troops capable of engaging both air and ground foes. It occupies a sweet spot between the fragile Archer and the more expensive, splash-damage units that arrive later in the campaign. In village defense and attack alike, the Wizard serves as a dependable all-rounder. Its ability to pick off Balloons, Dragons, or Air Sweepers while ground troops chew through defenses makes it a staple in mixed compositions. Though it lacks the area damage of a Ballista or the raw output of a Bowler, its versatility and low cost keep it relevant well past the early game.

Lore & Background

In the broad, sun-scorched plains where the clans build their walled villages, the Wizards are the scholars of the battlefield. Where the Barbarian answers with a cleaver and the Archer with a quick bolt, the Wizard answers with knowledge—of flame, of trajectory, of the precise moment an enemy's shield cracks. Their robed figures are a common sight at the back of any assault column, staffs raised, eyes narrowed against the glare of their own conjured fire. The old clan histories speak of a time when the Wizards were the only troops who could answer the sky. Before the Balloon was perfected, before the Dragon was tamed, it was the Wizard's fireballs that brought down the first clumsy, leather-skinned airships that drifted over the villages. That legacy still echoes in every mixed attack a player assembles: the ground troops form the wall, and the Wizards form the roof. They are not the most powerful, nor the most feared. But in the quiet logic of the clan's war councils, the Wizard is the unit you reach for when the enemy's composition is uncertain, when you need a single, reliable answer to a question you haven't fully asked yet.

In Their Own Story

The dust had barely settled from the first wave of Giants when the Wizard stepped off the bridge and raised her staff. Around her, the Golems groaned forward, their stone shoulders cracking against the Inferno Tower's beam. She did not look at them. She looked up. Three Balloons hung in the amber sky, their ropes swaying lazily. The enemy's Archer Queen was already repositioning, trying to keep her splash away from the Wizard's line. The Wizard tilted her head, calculated the drift, and let the fireball leave her fingertips. It arced low, kissed the ground in a brief orange bloom, and climbed. The first Balloon split open with a wet, hissing pop. She exhaled. Two more to go. The Golems would hold the ground. She would hold the sky. That was the deal, and she had kept it in a hundred villages before this one.

Reader's Guide

Name: Wizard Unlock: Town Hall 4 Profile: Moderate hitpoints and damage for its tier; medium speed (1.0); 5-tile range; single-target, air-and-ground capable. No splash, no taunt, no summon—just a clean, focused fireball on one target at a time. Unique behavior: The Wizard is a pure single-target ranged unit. It does not splash, does not taunt, and does not summon allies. Its value lies entirely in its dual-targeting and its early availability, making it the go-to answer when an enemy field mixes ground and air. Best pairings: Giants and Golems as tanks to absorb damage while the Wizard picks off Air Defenses and Balloons. Works well alongside Balloons in mixed air-ground pushes, and pairs naturally with Dragons or Electro Dragons for a layered air threat. In defense, placing Wizards behind walls and alongside Inferno Towers creates a focused single-target kill zone for lone Balloons or Dragons. Drop them when: You face a mixed ground-and-air army and need a cheap, reliable ranged answer that won't overcommit to one target type. Tip: Never drop Wizards directly into an Air Sweeper or Inferno Tower's range without tank support—they will melt before landing a single shot.
