Minion

Small wings, big numbers—send the whole blue flock and let volume do the talking.

The Minion is a small, blue-skinned flying troop in Clash of Clans, one of the earliest aerial units a player can deploy. With stubby wings, a round body, and a determined little expression, Minions represent the humblest tier of air assault—cheap, fragile, and meant to be sent in swarms rather than lone strikes. They are unlocked at Town Hall 4, making them the first flying troop most players encounter after mastering ground armies. Despite their modest stats, Minions occupy a surprisingly flexible niche in strategy. They can serve as cheap air bait to soak up Air Defense fire, add pressure to a multi-axis attack, or simply chip at exposed buildings when a player's army composition is otherwise locked. Their low training cost means they can be fielded in large numbers quickly, turning quantity into a form of quality on the battlefield.

Lore & Background

In the sprawling, grassy world of Clash of Clans, Minions are everywhere. Perched on the edges of watchtowers, buzzing lazily over mushroom farms, and clustering around the Town Hall in idle animation, they are the most common sight in any mid-tier village. Their origin story is never told in grand epic terms; they simply exist as a species of small, winged folk who seem to have a particular talent for bashing things with their little fists. Players who have watched a Minion slowly waddle toward an Air Defense, take a few hits, and finally fall in a puff of blue smoke will know that their determination is their only real armor. Within the broader ecosystem of troops, Minions sit at the very bottom of the air hierarchy. Where Balloons carry the weight of a full attack and Electro Dragons shred defenses with chain lightning, Minions simply… push forward. They are the foot-soldiers of the sky, the ones who fill the gaps when a player cannot yet afford a more expensive air composition. Their blue coloration and rounded, almost childlike design make them visually distinct from the heavier, more menacing air units that unlock later. Fans often affectionately refer to Minions as "the blue bunnies of the sky" or simply "the little guys." Their role in the community is that of the friendly, approachable entry point into air warfare. Every player who has ever dropped a handful of Minions on a Barbarian Hut to test whether their Air Defense actually works has a small, fond memory tied to these creatures.

In Their Own Story

The wind over the valley was soft that afternoon, carrying the smell of fresh-cut grass and the faint sizzle of a Black Smith's forge. A young player—barely past the wooden palisade of their Town Hall 4—stood at the edge of the training camp, watching a dozen Minions stretch their wings in the golden light. They were so small. So impossibly, stubbornly small. "Right then," the player muttered, tapping the deploy button. The Minions lifted in a ragged, buzzing column, their tiny fists clenched. Ahead, a lone Air Defense hummed to life, its barrel tracking the blue specks in the sky. The first Minion hit the turret and took a hit, wobbled, kept flying. The second followed. The third. One by one they fell in little blue sparks, but the Air Defense's ammo ticked down with each one. And when the last Minion finally crashed into the grass with a soft *thud*, the turret was silent. Empty. The player grinned, wiped a smudge of dirt from their cheek, and queued up the next wave. The little guys had done their job. They always did.

Minion – Tactical Profile

Unlock: Town Hall 4. Max level: 6. These are the lowest air stats in the game, which is precisely why they are cheap and fast to train. Unique behavior: Minions have no special ability. They fly, they punch a building, they die. Their value is purely numerical—low cost, quick training, and the ability to be fielded in large swarms without draining your entire army capacity. They cannot be healed by Healers in the way ground troops are (air troops generally cannot receive healing), making them even more fragile in prolonged engagements. Best pairings: Minions shine as bait alongside Balloons or Hogs. A small squad of Minions can be dropped on one axis to draw Air Defense fire while the main air push hits from another. In Town Hall 7–8 base attacks, a handful of Minions can finish off a surviving Air Defense after a Witch or Balloon absorbs the initial volleys. Drop them when: You need to waste an Air Defense's ammo without spending a Balloon's worth of capacity, or you want a cheap, fast air presence to test a base layout before committing your main army. A small Minion swarm on a secondary axis is often the difference between a clean 2-star and a frustrating 1-star.
